Carrizozo

Note on the name: There have been various stories or legends about how Carrizozo was named, the area was identified as Carrizozo Springs on G.M. Wheeler's Military Map of 1877 (84B) and must have been named before that area was generally occupied.
Carrizozo was not much more than William McDonald's Ranch when the Railroad got there in 1899/1900. Someday, in this study we will endeavor identify the railroad stops related to it and some little bits of history but the days after Carrizozo became the County Seat fall outside of the scope of this project. For right now we'll just look at the Laceys.
